Signature Project
Care Free Dental
The Junior League of Lansing (JLL) voted to adopt Care Free Dental as our latest Signature Project. JLL will provide funds and volunteers to Care Free Dental to assist in its efforts to provide dental care and oral health education to those in need in the greater Lansing area.
Volunteer Clinic
Care Free Dental’s mission is to provide quality dental care to eligible individuals in Ingham County. The Care Free Dental clinic is a volunteer clinic with the exception of a dental clinic coordinator and dental assistant. Area dentists and dental hygienists volunteer at the clinic allowing the clinic to provide care at greatly reduced rates. In the greater Lansing area over 50,000 people are unable to afford even basic dental care. Providers at the clinic are seeing patients with dental problems that have been magnified through lack of treatment over time. Research shows clear associations between chronic oral infections and other health problems including diabetes, heart disease, and adverse pregnancy outcomes.
In addition, Care Free has a strong partnership with the Capital Area Community Services, Head Start Program. The clinic provides preventative fluoride varnish and restorative treatment to children up to age 5.
Supported by JLL Volunteers
Care Free Dental utilizes volunteers from the JLL to help educate community members on oral health. Volunteers provide oral health education to parents of Head Start children and assist dental hygienists during oral health presentations at area elementary schools. Training for the volunteers is provided by the staff of Care Free Dental.
