Scholarships

Each spring the Junior League of Lansing (JLL) accepts applications for its scholarship program to recognize women with outstanding commitment to their community and voluntarism.  Please click on the Scholarship Application to apply or download the files below.

Scholarship Recipients:

The JLL congratulates individuals for their contributions to the benefit of our community, while never abandoning their goals of academic excellence. We hope the scholarship from the JLL will inspire these ladies to remain involved in their communities throughout their lives.

2011 Scholarship Recipients:

Brianne Feldpausch
Brianne will graduate from Fowler High School with 3.99 GPA and will be attending Michigan State University in the Fall.
 
Brianne was nominated for her dedication to her studies, athletics, volunteer activities and extra-curricular activities. She is a member of and president of school clubs like Business Professionals of America and Students against Destructive Decisions. She is also involved in student council, 4-H, track and cross country. Brianne was a two-time state champion in track and also broke 2 school records.
 
Brianne is also the founder and owner of Baskets by Brianne which she started in 2006.  This company makes custom design baskets, patterns, kits and also teaches classes. She is gaining experience in sales, marketing and creative design as well as desktop publishing.
 
Her nomination application listed her most significant contribution to the community as the large amount of volunteer work that she participates in. Her willingness to get involved shows her compassion for others as well as her drive to make the Fowler area a pleasant place to live.

Corinne VanWyke
Corinne was nominated by JLL sustainer Debbie Petersmark. She will be graduating from Mason High School with a 3.69 GPA. Corinne will attend Spring Arbor University in the Fall where she has been accepted to the concert choir.
 
Corinne has volunteered in the library for the last 3 years at Steele Elementary School in Mason as well as the Capitol District Library. She has been active in church youth group and choir for the last 7 years.  She was nominated and participated in the Rotary Youth Leadership Award in October 2010. Out of 65 participants Corinne was chosen as one of 25 to return for advanced leadership training in March 2011.
 
According to Debbie, Corinne’s most significant contribution to her community comes from her being a member of National Honor Society in which she was a French tutor, food service worker at the Ingham County Fair and helped clean up after MSU football games. Corinne was also chosen for partial scholarship to Blue Lake Fine Arts Cap in 2009 and accepted into the 2010 Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp Youth International Choir that performed for 6 weeks in France and Germany.
 
Corinne’s dedication to higher education for herself as well as being smart, organized and driven to accomplish her goals is why she is deserving of this scholarship

Miriam Chege
Miriam is the recipient of our Non-Traditional scholarship this year. Se graduated from East Lansing High School in 2010 with a 3.6 GPA. She is currently enrolled at Michigan State University as a part-time guest student. Next fall she will begin her undergraduate studies full time.  

Miriam was nominated because she has worked very hard to prove that she is loyal, dependable and hard working.  She has helped organize fund raising projects and co-organized the International Festival of East Lansing in2010 for East Lansing High School. The event helped to raise $1000 for earthquake victims in Haiti. She also volunteers to work at her churches Children Ministry at Trinity Church and has volunteered at after school program at Allen Neighborhood for Youth Service Corps.
 
Miriam was nominated by Beatrice Murithii who states in the application that Miriam’s most “significant contribution that impacted the Shabazz Academy was her dedication to the students. She could not wait to work with her students and made sure they completed their assignments correctly”.  She also assisted in grading papers and recording.
 
Miriam is an individual who has shown dedication worthy of this scholarship. You would be hard pressed to find a young person of her caliber.
