Funding Sources
About Us  >>    Signature Project    On Going Projects    Funding Sources    Scholarships    Leadership

Junior League of Lansing, Michigan has sources that provide funds in addition to the money raised through our signature fundraiser each year.

COMMUNITY RESPONSE GRANT

Starting in June 2006, the Enabling Fund was replaced by the Community Response Grant. It is funded through proceeds from the previous year's Signature Fundraiser. The Community Response Grant targets smaller (low-dollar) community needs on a quarterly basis. Applications for Community Response Grants are now available at the JLL office or on the JLL website. They must be submitted to the Community Grants Committee. Once the Community Grants Committee makes a recommendation regarding the grant, the Board must approve it.

COMMUNITY IMPACT GRANT

In June 2006, the Other Community Needs Grant was replaced with the Community Impact Grant. It is an off shoot of the Reserve Fund. When the Reserve Fund is at $85,000 or more, the Board can direct the newly-named Community Grant Committee to research community needs and propose distribution of some or all of the Reserve Fund above $75,000. (The Reserve Fund must have at least $75,000 in it, according to JLL policy.) The Community Impact Grants targets projects that are in immediate need of funding and/or that do not need a major Signature Project type commitment, but still require financial help.

Applications are available at the JLL office or on the JLL website. They must be submitted to the Community Grants Committee. Once the Committee Grants Committee makes a recommendation regarding the grant, the Board must approve it.

THREE COMMUNITY RESPONSE GRANTS AWARDED

The Community Response Grant, which can be handed out quarterly, has been awarded to three recipients.

Ballentine Stepping Stones, an ongoing service of St. Vincent’s Home, has been awarded $1,100. Ballentine Stepping Stones will use the grant monies to help meet the emergency needs of homeless mothers and children such as car repairs, bus passes, work clothes, school fees, school clothes for children, goal recognition
(“Mom of the Month”), and gift certificates to local stores for pantry supplies and household items.

The second grant recipient is The Jump Start Outreach Program of Ingham County Health Department, which services close to 100 children and their families. The Program will use the $500.00 granted to them to buy infant and children’s car
seats for families.

R.J. Scheffel Memorial
Toy Project
is the third recipient and will be using the $250.00 to make “memory boxes” and toys for grieving children who attend Ele’s place for comfort after the loss of a loved one.

Grant monies are still available. Applications can be found at www.jllansing.org
